Outpatient Surgery- Wallace Thomson Hospital



A multitude of surgical procedures can now be safely done on an outpatient basis, in many cases allowing the patient to return home the same day. At Wallace Thomson Hospital, our modern, well-equipped Surgical Services Department is designed to make your surgical experience as pleasant as possible. Our dedicated team of board-certified surgeons and physicians, registered nurses and support staff provide the high level of skill and individualized care you deserve during surgery. Built in 2001, our Outpatient Surgery Department provides convenient, cost-effective outpatient surgery for your family.

Your Pre-Operative Interview

On the day of your pre-operative appointment, you'll first stop by the registration office. It is on your immediate right as you enter the main entrance to the hospital. After registration, use the elevator just outside of registration as you enter the main entrance to the hospital. After registration, use the elevator just outside of registration to come directly to the Outpatient Surgery Department.

Children must come with parents for this interview. If you are under 18, you must have a parent or guardian with you to sign the necessary forms. An Anesthesia Department representative will talk to you about your anesthesia. A nurse will explain what you should do to prepare for surgery and after surgery. You will receive instructions about arrival time, and what to do the day of surgery. Necessary tests will be done during this visit. If you do not come for this interview your surgery could be delayed or cancelled. Please bring the following information when you come for your pre-operative interview.

Any paperwork from your doctor.
Medical history information.
List of allergies and current medications with dosages and frequency.
Copy of insurance card.
Medicare or Medicaid card.
Social Security Number.

On Your Day of Surgery:

Remove all rings and jewelry and leave them safely at home (for safety concerns, no metals are allowed on your person during surgery).
Remember to follow your eating/drinking and prep instructions.
Bring someone with you or make arrangements with someone to drive you home after surgery. You cannot drive for 24 hours following surgery.

Things to Remember 24 Hours After Your Surgery:

Do not drive a car.
Do not operate machinery or dangerous appliances.
Do not cook.
Do not make important decisions.
Do not watch small children for 24 hours.
